Fukushima: 28 Signs That The US West Coast Is Being Absolutely Fried With Nuclear Radiation…

The map above comes from the Nuclear Emergency Tracking Center. It shows that radiation levels at radiation monitoring stations all over the country are elevated. As you will notice, this is particularly true along the west coast of the United States. Every single day, 300 tons of radioactive water from Fukushima enters the Pacific Ocean. That means that the total amount of radioactive material released from Fukushima is constantly increasing, and it is steadily building up in our food chain.
Ultimately, all of this nuclear radiation will outlive all of us by a very wide margin. They are saying that it could take up to 40 years to clean up the Fukushima disaster, and meanwhile countless innocent people will develop cancer and other health problems as a result of exposure to high levels of nuclear radiation. We are talking about a nuclear disaster that is absolutely unprecedented, and it is constantly getting worse.
The following are 28 signs that the west coast of North America is being absolutely fried with nuclear radiation from Fukushima…

Calls for government to control food labels

Curtin University researchers have found an overwhelming majority of Western Australians support government regulation of food labels and advertising.

Dr Christina Pollard, Adjunct Senior Research Fellow in the School of Public Health, said there is increasing recognition that regulation has an important role to play as society addresses the public health problems of obesity and poor diet, as well as environmental protection.

“Community perception is that government control or regulation of food labelling, food advertising and the supply of environmentally-friendly food, is important,” Dr Pollard said.

“Our research demonstrated that 94 per cent of people think that the Australian and New Zealand governments should control health ratings on food and 83 per cent think that it should regulate the advertising of junk food.
“The majority would also like to see regulation of the supply of environmentally-friendly food.

Fires continue to ravage NSW as the world's top scientists, and Australia's frontline firefighters,[1] say the link between extreme weather and climate change has never been clearer. Yet at the same time, our leaders march blindly on, determined to undo everything we've fought for.

Why? They want our permission to turn their back on the greatest challenge of our time.

Are we going to give it to them? Hell no.

We have a plan. It starts with huge mobilisations. It starts in Perth – but we need your help.

On November 17, people all around the country are stepping up to host and attend the largest, most diverse National Day of Climate Action our country has ever seen. Are you in?

What: National Day of Climate Action
When: 11am Sunday 17 November
Where: Russell Square, Parker Street, Northbridge, WA

It's never been more urgent to hit the streets and show our leaders – visually and audibly – that Australians won't stand for going backwards on climate action.

We're talking about a climate events in every major city. We're talking about rallies in hundreds of rural towns and local communities around the nation. Grandparents, young people, firefighters, lawyers, bankers and teachers – standing side by side, wearing orange and red, holding our leaders to account on climate action.

It will be massive. Colourful. Loud. Unignorable... and of course, a lot of fun. The stage has been set, and it's time for us to step up. Will you make history with us?

The Garage Sale Trail

Are you participating on 26 October?

Garage Sale Trail is a fun day.  It’s a day about communityand it provides a great opportunity to fund raise

For the Waste Authority, it’s also about sustainability.  It’s about selling or giving away items to someone who needs them instead of throwing them away.

Nine out of ten Western Australian residents and businesses surveyed earlier this year reported being concerned about the amount of waste the State produces.

That’s one reason why the Waste Authority – the State Government agency working towards moving WA to a low waste society – is supporting the Garage Sale Trail.

So often good quality items go out for verge collection and get wet or wrecked and end up in landfill when someone else could have used them.  That’s costly for us as ratepayers and it’s costly for the environment.

Let’s make October 26th the biggest and best day of garage sales in WA.

Encourage your friends and relatives, your children’s school and sporting clubs to get involved.  If they don’t want to hold their own sale, they could join yours or donate their unwanted items to another group holding a sale.

After all, Western Australia is too good to waste.

Fracking Is Pretty Hard To Understand — Until It Isn't

It's a technique that's been around since the 1940s, but the recent exhaustion of natural gas resources through traditional extraction methods has made fracking the popular kid in school.
Unfortunately for the "school" (the environment), "Johnny Fracking" (hydraulic fracturing) "is a jackass" (has a tendency to tamper with the drinking water) and should be "sent to the principal's office" (more tightly regulated and policed to discourage fracking companies from carelessly dealing with the waste).

What is TPP?

Abbott set to sign highly secretive TPP agreement this month
The Abbott Coalition looks set to sign off on the highly secretive Trans-Pacific Partnership later this month, but what will it mean for ordinary Australians?
WHAT SORT of “Trade Agreement” manages to both criminalise internet use and force coal seam fracking onto communities?
The answer to this is the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), a pact that has the ominous potential to achieve both these corporate objectives — and many more.
Of course, we cannot know the exact effects of the TPP, as the negotiations over the past few years have been held in secret.  However, two leaked chapters – out of the 26 or more under negotiation – have caused more than their fair share of concern.

"Most Australians would be horrified if they knew what Tony Abbott might be about to sign away: Australia's health, environmental and consumer protection laws are on the chopping block," said Senator Scott Ludlam.
"The transnational tobacco, pharmaceutical and media corporations want to grant themselves the power to sue governments for passing laws they don't like. Draft copies of the secret trade agreement have been provided to corporate lobbyists but not ordinary citizens. The TPP is an example of massive corporate overreach, and Australians would do well to join with people in other countries objecting to this agreement.

Sustainable Web Design

I didn't know it existed but here you find an interesting post on sustainable web design by James Christie.

"Perhaps we’re conditioned to frame environmentally-friendly choices as sacrifices, but it isn’t so with the web. We can have cleaner, greener websites while also making users happier and improving the bottom line. And while the problem may be large, as any dietician can tell you, small changes add up. Why wouldn’t we get started?"
