Alisa Smith and James MacKinnon created a worldwide phenomenon when they decided to eat only food grown within 160 kilometres of their home.
We chose the first day of spring to begin what we hoped would be a year-long experiment. We had a single rule: every ingredient in every product we bought had to come from within 160 kilometres of our apartment in Vancouver, British Columbia.
