Keep GM wheat out of Western Australia!

I went to the presentation of two Canadian wheat farmers yesterday evening in West Perth and it is pretty clear that WA should stay far from monopolistic companies like Monsanto not only because the GM wheat is scary health wise but also because of the things happening to the farmers and goverment. Monsanto wants to patent every living thing with only one goal, to dominate the world foodmarket and become very powerful and rich!

They have a lot of media power and bring it as "we have to feed the world" which is not true. There is already a surplus of food but it won't reach those people starving because they have no money!

Hearing the stories of experiences from farmers in Canada is eye opening and it was sad there were only a handful of farmers in the audience. If you are interested in more info on the whole GM dilemma, there are several evenings coming up:

  1. The official U.S. position on genetically modified organisms is that there is no difference between gmos and natural organisms. The issue goes even further to suggest that no country should be able to require mandatory GMO labeling on food items. Scared? You should be. A recent study released by the International Journal of Biological Sciences found that GM Corn has caused organ damage in lab rats. I'm sure the corn is fine to feed to our cattle or eat ourselves though.
