A POWER failure at Cockburn Cement Limited (CCL) sent plumes of dust into the air last week, prompting a Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) investigation and demands from residents that the company “clean up its act”.
CCL operations manager Darrin Strange said that at 8.30am on Monday, June 28, the power used to run Kiln 3’s electrostatic precipitator (ESP) went out for several minutes.
He said ESPs – metal plates that attract dust through an electric current –- could trip because of power surges.
