Lazy beachgoers are polluting WA's coastline with more and more rubbish, a study by litter regulators has shown.
New national litter index figures from Keep Australia Beautiful show a 30 per cent rise in rubbish being left at the beach, although litter at other locations across the State has decreased.
The organisation's WA chairman, Mel Hay, said there was "absolute laziness" among people with a total disregard for their community and the environment.
He said the beach findings were disappointing because it was the only area in WA that recorded an increase in rubbish from the 2008-09 results.
"Why do people walk away from the beach leaving their bottles and cans and fast-food containers lying in the sand? It's a hard question to answer but it's a behaviour that has to change," Mr Hay said.
