Mapping shows threat of water security for biodiversity

THE world's rivers are in crisis, with dams, agricultural run-off and introduced pests being identified as a major threat to people and aquatic species, a UWA study has found.

For the first time researchers have simultaneously mapped global water security with biodiversity to show the effect dam building, agricultural practices, engineering of wetlands and the introduction of exotic species has on the health of the world's rivers.
